How to Fit In Plaid to Your Wardrobe
Plaid is another male fashion trend for 2012. Although plaid will always be a favorite of outdoorsmen and an ubiquitous presence in the highlands of Scotland, the plaid trend for Fall 2011 is motivated by the grunge look of the 90s. But the plaid trend for this season are not only in flannel shirts but are incorporated in almost everything, from clothing items to accessories.

Plaid is a pattern made of horizontal and vertical lines of different colors interweaved or interlaced with each other. This pattern called a tartan was originally used by Scottish clans as an identifying feature of each clan. The modern day take of the plaid pattern, however, takes advantage of a multitude of designs and colors. It is a very versatile pattern that can be as traditional or bold as you want. Here are some ideas on how to fit in plaid in your wardrobe:
Plaid pants
Yes, plaids are also great patterns for pants, but usually plaid patterns on pants are more conservative with lighter lines interweaved closer and in lighter colors. But there are instances when you can wear bold colored and patterned plaids. For business casuals, an ideal plaid pattern can be in blue or gray but for sportswear you can rock a bolder plaid pattern and color. A plaid golf pants can get you a lot of attention in the greens and plaid snowboard pants will brighten the pristine white slopes.
Plaid jackets and shirts
For the ubër casual look, a plaid jacket is the ultimate for an after work night out or a weekend trip to the country. Plaid jackets pair well with denims or casual pants worn with either sneakers or even dressier shoes. It is also a fabulous layering item for fall. Wear a plaid blazer over a thin hoodie for that edgy look plaids are known for, a very trendy look.
The most common plaid shirt is of course a long sleeved button-down plaid shirt, but you should not be limited to it for your plaid shirt collections. Plaid shirts are so versatile that they can be paired with jeans, slacks, shorts, chinos and khakis. Of course for the cooler months of Fall, a long sleeved plaid shirt is de rigueur, and it is best in a fitted cut. Wear them under a sports coat or even a cardigan and to keep you warm and yet very stylish this season. When spring comes around you can get the more casual short-sleeved plaid shirts in bolder color and patterns or simply roll up the sleeves of your long sleeved plaid shirt.
