Decade Men’s Fashions, The 80s

So, you have a costume party or theme day at your local school, church, or even work. And you have no idea what, as a man, you should wear. There are many times throughout life that the occasion comes up for dressing to match a decade, and the 80s will most definitely be included in this. So what did men wear in the 80s? You may be lost, but it’s not near as difficult as you may think. With just a few tidbits of information about the 80s, you can dress to impress your crowd at your flashback party or occasion.

The first thing to know about the 80s is that they were nothing like the previous decades. This decade had a distinctive style and groove to it. Shoes were almost invariably some type of platforms or leather boots of some sort for men. The 80s represented a transition period from the time of disco and hippies into a time of rock and modern times, so the fashions changed a little even through the short 10 years. Pants of the 80s ranged from bell bottoms to tight vinyl/leather pants – invariably tight for men no matter what. At this point men weren’t as modest and they wanted to show off their bodies a little.

Shirts were so varied that they were not as different from today as you would think. Usually tight, they could range from a tight muscle shirt with a short hem and trimmed edges to an open leather shirt to show the chest area. And of course, you have to remember the accessories. Men wore headbands, and that was about it for head wear. The big hair was in then, and men rarely wore anything to cover up that popular style.

LEATHER PANTS FOR MEN

LEATHER PANTS FOR MEN

One of the sexiest things that a man can wear is a pair of leather pants. These sleek and stylish pants are very flattering on any man and always make a fashion statement. If you’re a man who rides motorcycles leather pants are excellent ways to help protect your legs while riding. Leather pants are comfortable, practical, and many are very similarly styled to jeans.

There are several different kinds of leather, and of course there is faux, or fake, leather, often called pleather. When buying leather pants, you need to decide what your budget is. Can you afford over a hundred dollars on a top of the line pair of leather pants made from buffalo leather? Or would you prefer cowhide? Whatever you decide, keep in mind that leather comes in different grades. Grade A leather is the best that you can get. It’s comfortable, moves with you, and is made from extremely high quality leather. Napa leather is also very good, but is a bit softer and cheaper. If you decide to go with pleather, you’ll find that it is just as durable as real leather, looks just the same, but costs only a fraction of the price.

When you buy leather pants, you need to keep in mind that you may not wear the same size that you wear in blue jeans. While many styles of leather pants are exactly like jeans – relaxed fit, five pocket, or straight leg – the sizes may run small. Some of the leather pants are lined, which can make them tighter. Others just are a size smaller than the rest of the pants you wear, so it’s best to buy a size larger to get a pair that will fit you best.
