What Not to Wear in 2011

What Not to Wear in 2011

While fashion is taking a different turn, we are slowly seeing what things are in style this upcoming year and what we should run kicking and screaming from. So the question is—what should you NOT wear during the year of 2011?

First of all, crocs need to go. Maybe they are comfortable. Maybe your feet do get adequate ventilation. And yes, you can put tiny, cute little charms into the holes of your crocs, including dragons and kittens and all of that cute, mushy stuff. But, really…they aren’t so hot now. Instead, opt for something that has a more military vibe, such as commando boots or a pair of good ole tennis shoes or flip flops.

Next, say goodbye to poofy jackets. While they may have had their heyday in 2004, it’s definitely time to pull out a little bit of pocket money and invest in a new one. Since military based fashion is really popular right now, you may want to look into buying a pea coat or a flight jacket if you wish, preferably in navy blue or camouflage. Black also works.

Baggy jeans, believe it or not, are also out. They’ve been popular for about ten or more years, but skinny jeans have run in on the scene and chased baggy pants away. Choose a pair that fits you well, first of all. The whole falling down pants thing might still be slightly popular, but it doesn’t go well with this look. It’s best to just pull them right on up.

To Tie or Not To Tie

To Tie or Not To Tie

A tie is a quick, stylish way to jazz up any outfit. But the question is, how do you know when to wear a tie and when it’s alright to just say “I don’t need one?” First of all, you need to know that almost any outfit that contains a long-sleeve button up shirt can make use of a tie. But the problem is deciding whether the tie is really necessary.

First of all, think about where you are going to be wearing the tie to. If you are going to be wearing something trendy like a watchman coat, then you probably want to just go ahead and wear the tie. Plain ties are more in style now, but patterns aren’t exactly out either.

Next, try to make sure that if you are going to wear a tie that it goes with what you are wearing. Sure that white tie with the pink unicorns might be epic, but if you are wearing a navy blue shirt, then you might want to look into something a lot different, or rather closer, to the shirt that you are wearing.

Look also at your pants and shoes. If you are wearing a pair of jeans and tennis shoes, you may find that you can get away with the use of a tie. Instead, leave your shirt slightly unbuttoned. When you do this, it doesn’t look quite as stiff and odd without the tie.

With these things in mind, use your best judgement in order to best dress yourself.

What Goes With What?

What Goes With What?

Men’s fashion is a lot different compared to what it used to be. However, this is leaving a lot of men clueless as to what they should do when it comes to mixing and matching their clothing.

First of all, military style clothing is in, so that is definitely a starting point. However, military clothing doesn’t mean that you just wear anything—usually it requires that you plan ahead at least a little.

Say that you were wearing a watchmen coat. Now, you can dress it three different ways.

First, you can pair it with a nice shirt and a pair of jeans. Make sure that the jeans that you are wearing are clean and also are made of darker denim and softer denim. Make sure that your shirt is pressed. You can wear a pair of tennis shoes with these. Make sure that they are dark, or if you really wanted to, you could wear a pair of shoes that are lighter. A tie isn’t always a must.

Then again, you could also wear a tee-shirt and pair of regular jeans with a watchmen coat. Make sure that when you wear said watchmen coat that you make sure to wear a clean, neat tee-shirt. For example, make sure that you made sure your clothes are clean. The sniff test just doesn’t work or count, unless you’re at an all-guys school and even then it isn’t really acceptable. Shoes should be tennis shoes.

The last is all dressed up. Make sure that you are wearing dark slacks, a shirt of your choice, and shoes to match.

FUNERAL DRESS CODE FOR MEN

FUNERAL DRESSING CODE FOR MEN

One of the saddest occasions in any man’s life is when he has to attend a funeral. Funerals are very somber, formal, and respectful occasions. Part of being respectful is dressing appropriately for the funeral. Many people are actually confused as to what to wear to a funeral, but there are some very simple guidelines to follow.

Men, if they want to dress traditionally, should wear a black suit. This means black suit jacket, black slacks, plain white shirt, a long, plain necktie, preferably black. There are exceptions to these rules. A black suit paired with a black turtleneck, black dress shirt and long black tie, a black dress shirt with the first button undone and no tie, or even a black t-shirt (preferably a silky one). These can all be acceptable, depending on the deceased and the family at the funeral. Dress shoes should be worn, not tennis shoes or boots. If you are a pall-bearer, then you should wear a suit that is dark, or at the least a dark colored sports coat with a tie.

Some people don’t think that a funeral should be so dark. These people believe that the person’s death should indeed be grieved, but their life should be celebrated with some sort of color. Don’t go overboard with this. No wearing neon colors. Instead, wear a pale blue, deep red, or something similar. If there is going to be a religious service, then make sure that you dress appropriately. You should dress conservatively, in dark colors, and avoid wearing anything that is considered to be sexy. Since many men dress in sexy shirts or tight pants, they should tone it down for the service. If in doubt, check with the party beforehand, just in case all black is requested or some other combination.
